About the Role

As a Plumber at Babcock in Chatham, Kent, you will play a vital role in maintaining the safety, efficiency, and reliability of essential facilities across the estate. Working as part of a close-knit team, you’ll deliver both planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of mechanical systems, from water services to heating and drainage. This is a hands-on role where your expertise directly supports operational readiness while offering you the opportunity to further develop your technical skills in a dynamic engineering environment.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, including system checks, inspections, and servicing.
  • Diagnose and repair faults across plumbing, heating, and water hygiene systems.
  • Respond to reactive maintenance tasks such as leaks, blockages, and system faults.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed and support inventory management.
  • Support general site operations by ensuring systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.

Please note that this position involves manual work, including lifting, bending, using tools, and standing for extended periods.

Working Hours

The role is based onsite at Chatham, with set working times of Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:30, totalling 40 hours per week. Overtime is available.

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrable plumbing experience, ideally within a commercial or facilities environment.
  • Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Ability to fault find and repair a range of mechanical and plumbing systems.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety and compliance standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Relevant plumbing qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
