The Role
As a Principal AWS Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for defining our overarching cloud strategy, architecting highly resilient, scalable, and secure distributed systems on AWS. You will serve as the highest level of technical escalation and provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Architect complex, multi-region, and highly available AWS cloud environments aligned with business goals.
- Continuously evaluate emerging AWS services and third-party tools to enhance our technology stack.
- Guide technical decision-making across engineering squads and ensure seamless integration of cloud infrastructure.
- Maintain complex, modular codebases using Terraform/AWS CDK/Pulumi.
- Architect internal developer platforms and enterprise-grade CI/CD frameworks.
- Implement and drive AWS cost optimisation strategies and performance improvements.
Essential Experience:
- Extensive experience in cloud infrastructure dedicated to AWS.
- Expert knowledge of the AWS ecosystem, including complex networking, compute, data storage, and enterprise security.
- Exceptional proficiency in Infrastructure as Code and configuration management.
- Strong software background with expertise in modern programming languages (Python, Go, Java, or Node.JS).
- Demonstrated experience leading large technical projects and influencing organisational engineering culture.
- Proven track record of designing, deploying, and maintaining large-scale, distributed software systems.
Essential Qualifications:
- Minimum of AWS Associate certification or higher.

Working Hours & Location:
This role is 37 hours per week, based at any of our main UK sites, with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Some flexibility in working times may be required to cover shift patterns between 07:30-18:30 GMT. Participation in an on-call rota is required for maintaining high service availability and rapid incident response.
Security Clearance:
All applicants must be eligible for SC clearance as a minimum.
