As a Software Engineer within the Software Systems Capability function, your role will involve specifying, designing, validating, and testing software components, including low-level requirements and source code. The Principal Software Engineer specifically is responsible for the on-time delivery and quality of the software and its associated artefacts, achieved through decomposing designs and developing tests and analysis to ensure implementation meets allocated requirements.
What you will be doing:
- Reviews and agrees high-level software requirements, including their testability.
- Analyzes and translates high-level requirements into a validated design for the software component.
- Captures applicable design constraints and quality attributes for the component.
- Designs and implements software components to meet high-level requirements and design constraints/standards.
- Allocates software requirements to test vehicles defined in the verification plan.
- Analyzes software components for functional behaviour, potentially using modelling and simulation.
- Develops and reviews software tests to demonstrate that software requirements have been satisfied.
- Analyzes existing software for architectural or design issues and drives improvement for robustness and safety.
- Analyzes verification test results against software requirements.
- Provides targeted testing of software-level functionality to support problem investigation and customer issues.
- Liaises with other disciplines to understand component functional performance capabilities.
- May participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals.
- May develop, implement, document, and maintain policies, procedures, guidelines, tools, and training.
- Develops the knowledge required to advise project teams and create, search, and reuse knowledge.
- Produces reports as required to document work.
Position Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of software design, system architecture, software and/or hardware architecture, software and hardware development process constraints, and embedded software testing at module level.
- Degree Qualified.
- Strong knowledge of modern C++ in relation to real-time systems, including understanding of refactoring legacy code for robustness.
- A working appreciation of associated engineering disciplines.
- Proficient with design and analysis tools.
- Professional courage to highlight concerns and risks regarding product suitability for requirements in a safe and functionally appropriate way.
- Ability to interpret test results and provide informed conclusions, including understanding measurement uncertainty.
- Demonstrated ability to manage tasks to completion and keep relevant business areas informed.
- Ability to identify and manage risk in collaboration with team members.
Preferred requirements:
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to understand required analysis levels.
- Good time management skills, able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, dynamically responding to evolving objectives.
