About the Role
As a Principal Structural Engineer at BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness, you will be an integral part of a dual-function team comprising around 14 individuals of varying seniority. Your primary responsibility will be to deliver engineering assessments that support the build process, working collaboratively with design colleagues to develop equipment and provide operational support for the production of safety-critical systems. We offer flexible working arrangements and opportunities for overtime, alongside local commuting support.
Core Duties
- Responsible for the analysis and design of complex steel structures utilising required standards.
- Utilise knowledge of specific regulations and requirements beyond standard BAE Systems practices, including LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, and geometric tolerance.
- Support the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of Submarine Structures, Modules, and Components.
- Provide support with the production of technical outputs consistent with contractual requirements, meeting target dates and budget demands.
- Responsible for approvals and checking of analysis and outputs.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Prior experience in undertaking structural calculations.
- Good understanding of structural mechanics and dynamics principles.
- Experience in developing structural requirements alongside Validation and Verification evidence.
- Proficiency in the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
- Comfortable with presenting technical arguments to a range of stakeholders.
The Specialist Structures Department Team
Joining the Specialist Structures Department offers a fantastic opportunity to work closely with a wide range of key internal teams and external stakeholders, contributing to the overall Submarine build process. This team is responsible for delivering and developing required equipment and providing operational support for safety-critical systems.
