As a Risk & Opportunity Manager, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of risk and opportunity management for designated Programmes, acting as a subject matter expert (SME) and first point of contact for these programmes and supporting Functions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the primary R/O SME and contact for nominated programmes and supporting Functions, potentially across multiple Business Areas.
  • Facilitating the identification of Programme and Functional risks and opportunities through methods such as risk workshops, brainstorming, and assumptions analysis.
  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative assessments of identified risks and opportunities to enable prioritisation, in collaboration with Project Managers (PMs), Technical Leads, and Functional Managers.
  • Recording risks and opportunities in the designated Risk Management database (currently ARM).
  • Collaborating with PMs, Technical Leads, and Functional Heads to identify and document R/O mitigation and exploitation strategies.
  • Engaging with Programme Planners, PMO, Finance, and Supply Chain representatives to ensure approved R/O mitigations are incorporated into the schedule and funding.
  • Facilitating Risk & Opportunity Management boards independently.
  • Performing cost risk analysis to support financially informed decision-making.
  • Conducting schedule risk analysis in partnership with Programme Planners and Controllers to assess the likelihood of meeting programme scope, time, and budget objectives, assisting PMs in understanding their risk exposure.
  • Generating comprehensive internal and external risk reports to enhance proactive risk management, drive risk-aware decision-making, build stakeholder confidence, and foster continuous Programme and Functional improvement.
  • Representing the Risk & Opportunity Manager (ROM) team in Functional Improvement activities under the guidance of the Lead R/O Manager.
  • Providing ad-hoc end-user training on reviewing and updating risks within the ARM tool.
  • Managing risk for small bids under supervision.

Required skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Experience in developing and maintaining Programme risk registers.
  • Strong numerical skills with the ability to evaluate costs related to programme delivery and work effectively within a technically and skill-diverse team.
  • A fast learner with good analytical and problem-solving capabilities, demonstrating strong decision-making skills.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, self-motivated, and committed to professional development in risk and opportunity management within programme management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively, both formally and informally, with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management, project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and high-level customer representatives.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new toolsets and processes.
  • Capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable skills:

  • Working knowledge and experience in Risk & Opportunity Management.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with Active Risk Manager and ARM Risk Express.
  • Possession of, or progress towards, an industry-recognised qualification in risk management.

Clearance Required:
