About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Risk & Opportunity Manager (R/O) to join our Programme Management Office (PMO) team at our Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Ampthill, Bedfordshire. This position offers a 4xFlex working pattern, comprising a 4-day work week (Monday - Thursday) and hybrid working arrangements, with onsite presence typically on Mondays and Tuesdays, and remote work on Wednesdays and Thursdays, subject to business needs.
As a Risk & Opportunity Manager, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of risk and opportunity management for designated Programmes, acting as a subject matter expert (SME) and first point of contact for these programmes and supporting Functions.
Responsibilities include:
- Serving as the primary R/O SME and contact for nominated programmes and supporting Functions, potentially across multiple Business Areas.
- Facilitating the identification of Programme and Functional risks and opportunities through methods such as risk workshops, brainstorming, and assumptions analysis.
- Conducting qualitative and quantitative assessments of identified risks and opportunities to enable prioritisation, in collaboration with Project Managers (PMs), Technical Leads, and Functional Managers.
- Recording risks and opportunities in the designated Risk Management database (currently ARM).
- Collaborating with PMs, Technical Leads, and Functional Heads to identify and document R/O mitigation and exploitation strategies.
- Engaging with Programme Planners, PMO, Finance, and Supply Chain representatives to ensure approved R/O mitigations are incorporated into the schedule and funding.
- Facilitating Risk & Opportunity Management boards independently.
- Performing cost risk analysis to support financially informed decision-making.
- Conducting schedule risk analysis in partnership with Programme Planners and Controllers to assess the likelihood of meeting programme scope, time, and budget objectives, assisting PMs in understanding their risk exposure.
- Generating comprehensive internal and external risk reports to enhance proactive risk management, drive risk-aware decision-making, build stakeholder confidence, and foster continuous Programme and Functional improvement.
- Representing the Risk & Opportunity Manager (ROM) team in Functional Improvement activities under the guidance of the Lead R/O Manager.
- Providing ad-hoc end-user training on reviewing and updating risks within the ARM tool.
- Managing risk for small bids under supervision.
Required skills, qualifications and experience:
- Demonstrable experience in a PMO role (e.g., Project Planner, Project Controller, Project Co-ordinator, PMO Analyst, PMO Administrator, Risk Manager, Risk Analyst, Risk Officer, or related field).
- Experience in developing and maintaining Programme risk registers.
- Strong numerical skills with the ability to evaluate costs related to programme delivery and work effectively within a technically and skill-diverse team.
- A fast learner with good analytical and problem-solving capabilities, demonstrating strong decision-making skills.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, self-motivated, and committed to professional development in risk and opportunity management within programme management.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively, both formally and informally, with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management, project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and high-level customer representatives.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new toolsets and processes.
- Capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable skills:
- Working knowledge and experience in Risk & Opportunity Management.
- Working knowledge of and experience with Active Risk Manager and ARM Risk Express.
- Possession of, or progress towards, an industry-recognised qualification in risk management.
Clearance Required:
The successful candidate must achieve the appropriate level (SC) of security clearance.
