About the Role
As a Senior Civil and Structural Engineer at Babcock's Devonport Royal Dockyard site, you will be instrumental in ensuring the operational readiness of critical infrastructure vital to national defence. You'll be part of the Facilities Engineering Technical Authority, responsible for the comprehensive management of facilities, undertaking detailed inspections, producing asset condition reports, and specifying repair techniques.
This role demands a strong understanding of civil structures, common defect types, and excellent communication skills. You will prepare technical scopes, act as an intelligent customer, and liaise with plant managers to provide essential technical advice. The position offers hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days in the office/onsite, contributing to a safe and secure world.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake inspections of civil and structural assets across the Devonport site.
- Produce detailed asset condition reports and identify defects.
- Specify repair materials and techniques for structural maintenance.
- Prepare technical scopes and specifications, acting as an intelligent customer.
- Liaise with plant managers and facility operators to facilitate inspections and provide technical advice.
- Apply engineering concepts and theories to deliver development designs, calculations, and technical solutions across the Engineering Product Lifecycle.
- Be directly accountable for designs, calculations, and technical solutions, working under own initiative to produce high-quality outputs.
- Manage others and/or delivery of engineering and technical activities through the application of process, domain knowledge, and experience.
- Apply a wider range of knowledge to complex situations and provide mentoring to others.
Essential Experience:
- Strong understanding of civil structures and structural behaviour.
- Knowledge of common defect types in civil and structural assets.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt, learn, and work to schedule deadlines.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Civil, Structural, or related engineering discipline OR Level 4/5 STEM qualification (HNC/HND) with substantial relevant experience.
