About BAE Systems

Join BAE Systems and become part of a global team dedicated to pioneering progress and protecting what matters. You will be instrumental in delivering advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace, and security solutions, shaping a safer future.

The Role: Senior Engineer – NVH/Acoustics

As a Senior Engineer specializing in Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH)/Acoustics, you will play a critical role in ensuring our submarines meet stringent stealth performance targets. This involves meticulous noise and vibration measurements throughout the submarine's lifecycle, from prototype testing to in-service support. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders to influence design choices, conduct in-depth diagnostics, and champion continuous improvement initiatives.

This position requires you to mentor junior engineers, support programme delivery, and apply innovative solutions within a dynamic environment, contributing to one of the UK's most complex engineering platforms.

Core Duties:

  • Ensure submarines meet stealth performance goals by executing Noise and Vibration measurements (structure borne, Airborne, and fluid borne) across the submarine lifecycle, including equipment prototypes, Factory Acceptance Testing, in-build measurements, and in-service support.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide critical noise and vibration data, influencing and guiding design decisions.
  • Support the development and mentoring of junior engineers within the team.
  • Conduct a variety of equipment condition-based monitoring and diagnostics assessments.
  • Take a leading role in understanding technical challenges, identifying improvement opportunities, and confidently challenging traditional approaches with innovative thinking.
  • Adapt positively to changes within a dynamic operational environment.

The Stealth Engineering Department (NAVED)

Within the NAVED team, you will be integral to conducting comprehensive stealth assessments, from single equipment tests to large-scale transducer measurements during the critical commissioning phases of highly complex platforms. As a senior member, you will mentor junior and graduate engineers while supporting growing programme demands.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Hold a STEM degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Maths).
  • Possess proven multi-year experience in Noise and Vibration measurement, analysis, and reporting.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in at least one relevant acquisition software (e.g., Siemens LMS, HBK Connect, Pulse/labshop, or previous versions).
  • Exhibit the ability to clearly communicate technical findings to stakeholders with diverse technical backgrounds.
