The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead the delivery of mechanical design solutions and take ownership of complex tasks requiring high integrity engineering. You will explore and test problem spaces thoroughly, guide others in generating hardware solutions, and coordinate reviews and testing to ensure customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviews: Guide and coordinate subject matter experts through design reviews, including pre-reviews and chairing internal or lower-level customer reviews.
- Delivery: Lead and coordinate technical teams to produce optimized designs and detailed reports, driving continuous improvement.
- Technical: Provide confident advice and presentations to customers, stakeholders, and peers, solving complex problems with best practices.
- Governance: Apply safety engineering tools across the project lifecycle, contributing to HAZID outputs and Design Safety Cases.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking individuals with significant and wide-ranging experience in:
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), CAD modelling using NX, configuration control using Teamcenter, and composites manufacture/design.
- OR the ability to distill large numbers of requirements into product solutions, with strong Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) understanding, particularly concerning cable runs, space claims, and interface management.
Essential experience includes providing guidance and advice to less experienced practitioners in areas such as Hazard Identification, Safety Cases, Analytical/Simulation/Modelling Techniques, Materials Selection, and Concept Design & Development. Significant experience creating technical drawings from 3D Models in Siemens NX and working with suppliers, manufacturers, customers, and subject matter experts is also required.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND/Degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or Product Design (or equivalent experience).
- Membership of a recognised professional institution, with ongoing CPD and working towards CEng registration.
Work Environment
This role is based at our state-of-the-art Gosport site, with an average of five days per week on-site. Adaptive working options are available, including flexible start/finish times and compressed hours.
