Senior Mechanical Engineer
At Cavendish Nuclear, we are dedicated to creating a safe and secure world. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team, contributing significantly to one of the UK's major civil nuclear decommissioning programmes. This role offers the opportunity to shape high-impact engineering decisions and influence the future of nuclear facilities.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be a pivotal member of a multidisciplinary engineering team. You will leverage advanced technical expertise to develop, integrate, and enhance complex mechanical systems essential for the safe deconstruction and futureproofing of nuclear sites. Your work will be crucial in ensuring compliance, technical excellence, and robust design integrity throughout the entire project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the delivery of complex mechanical engineering tasks and providing high-quality technical guidance.
- Producing and reviewing essential engineering documentation, such as calculations, drawings, models, and reports.
- Cultivating strong relationships with customers and serving as a key technical interface.
- Applying relevant procedures, codes, and standards to uphold safety, compliance, and technical rigour.
- Identifying and managing project risks, while actively contributing to safety assessments and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Supporting the development of junior engineers and fostering best-practice engineering within a leading nuclear design alliance.
Essential Experience:
- Proven experience delivering engineering activities across the full project lifecycle.
- A strong track record of producing and reviewing detailed engineering documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication skills with confidence in engaging customers and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Engineering degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
This is a full-time, permanent position, working 37 hours per week. Hybrid working arrangements are available, with the role based at either our Whitehaven, Cumbria site (Westlake’s Science Park, Moor Row) or our Warrington, Cheshire site.
