The Role
Reporting to the Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and analysis of components and assemblies from concept through testing to final production. Your day-to-day activities will involve delivering technical projects focused on the structural design of submarine propulsors, working with complex multi-material assemblies designed for demanding environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a Senior Engineer, applying subject matter expertise and engineering judgment to solve complex problems and manage schedules.
- Collaborate with the Project Management community to task and control work conducted by technical teams.
- Develop engineering capabilities within your areas of expertise and mentor other team members.
- Encourage collaboration across teams and with other functions (e.g., Safety Engineering) to ensure compliance with relevant processes.
- Identify and develop joint technical strategies with partner organisations to expand customer offerings, supporting Business Development and Sales.
- Ensure all projects are conducted safely, identifying and highlighting hazards.
- Apply consistent governance across technical programmes and act as an independent reviewer for other projects.
Essential Experience:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and structural engineering, including design processes and manufacturing principles.
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in CAD software, particularly Siemens NX or SolidWorks.
- Experience designing structures to recognised industry standards (Maritime, Defence, or Civil).
- Skilled in designing both metallic and composite structures.
- Competency in performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on complex structures and systems.
Essential Qualifications:
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture, or equivalent demonstrable experience.

This role is based at our Haslar site and involves 37 hours per week, with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.
Our state-of-the-art facilities at the Haslar Marine Technology Park, including an ocean basin rotating arm and marine towing tank, provide an unparalleled environment for testing and refining designs for surface ships, submarines, offshore structures, and renewable energy devices.
