The Role

As a Senior Mission Systems Engineer, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of mission systems capability. You will develop innovative solutions that enhance operational effectiveness within complex defence and aerospace environments. Working as part of our Mission Solutions team, you will apply your expertise in systems engineering, modelling, software development, data fusion, and analysis to support the design, development, integration, and evaluation of advanced mission systems. Your contributions will span the entire sensor-to-effect chain, including the development of next-generation capabilities such as AI and machine learning-enabled solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enhance mission systems through modelling, analysis, and systems engineering techniques.
  • Design, develop, and integrate software solutions using tools such as Python, MATLAB, and C++.
  • Support the development and evaluation of AI, machine learning, and data fusion applications within operational environments.
  • Conduct test, evaluation, and performance analysis activities to support capability development.
  • Contribute to the development of mission planning systems and mission data products.
  • Undertake research into emerging technologies to inform future mission systems and operational concepts.

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in modelling, systems engineering, software development, or algorithm development.
  • Approximately five years of relevant technical experience within defence, aerospace, or a related engineering environment.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Python, C++, or similar programming languages.
  • Knowledge of AI, machine learning, data fusion, or neural network techniques.
  • Experience of analysis, simulation, test, and evaluation activities.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or another relevant STEM discipline.
  • Relevant technical qualification or equivalent industry experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development within a scientific, engineering, or technical discipline.

Location and Working Hours

This role is based at our Lincoln site and involves 37 hours per week, with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
