About the Role

Boeing Defence UK is seeking a Senior OpenShift Platform Engineer to join their Infrastructure Team. This role is critical for the day-to-day support and maintenance of the Redhat OpenShift Container platform and the broader Redhat Linux server estate, supporting multiple programmes including Ministry of Defence Information Services (MoD IS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Redhat OpenShift enterprise implementation and provide ongoing support.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of the OpenShift/Container Platform.
  • Install, maintain, and configure production and non-production OpenShift environments.
  • Perform regular patching, software implementations, and upgrades to Redhat OpenShift platforms.
  • Support the delivery of automated infrastructure solutions.
  • Execute and automate patching and monitoring activities.
  • Collaborate closely with other business teams to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Conduct fault diagnosis, including problem statement definition and mitigation planning.
  • Participate in service and application migration activities (RHEL & OCP).
  • Provide input and design reviews to ensure best practice implementation of container platforms and automation toolchains.
  • Be part of a 24x7 on-call team, providing extended hours support on a rota basis (approximately 1 in 5).

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven hands-on experience with OpenShift upgrades, installations, and configuration, ideally managing large-scale migrations and deployments.
  • Extensive experience in Redhat OpenShift Administration activities.
  • Proficiency in container monitoring tools and metrics.
  • Ability to write scripts for automating day-to-day OpenShift tasks.
  • In-depth knowledge of OpenShift v3.x & 4.x, including Operators, registry, Networking, and CICD on OpenShift.
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning experience.
  • Experience with automation techniques and toolchains such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, Gitlab, and Jenkins.
  • Thorough understanding of containerization technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
  • Significant experience in a UNIX and Redhat (RHEL8 & RHEL9) administration role.
  • Ability to gain UK SC clearance.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • DevOps/CI/CD process architecture/engineering experience.
  • Relevant Redhat certifications (RHSA, RHCE, Redhat Certified Specialist in Containers & Kubernetes, Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration).
  • Fluency in at least one scripting language such as Ruby, PowerShell, Python, or Java.
  • Experience working within a secure and high-availability environment.
