Senior/Principal Engineer – Mechanical Engineering (HVAC/LEV)
Join BAE Systems as a Senior/Principal Engineer within the Site Specialist Engineering (SSE) team, contributing to the development of cutting-edge defence, aerospace, and security solutions. This hybrid role, based in Barrow-in-Furness, requires 3 days per week onsite with ad hoc factory visits, offering flexible working arrangements.
As a key member of the SSE team, you will be instrumental in defining the mechanical design requirements for both Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) site developments. You will collaborate closely with end users and project teams, leveraging your expertise to ensure successful project outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the definition of mechanical design requirements for HVAC and LEV site developments.
- Reviewing mechanical design proposals and specifications for new facilities and refurbishments to ensure compliance with current legislation, regulations, and site standards.
- Providing guidance and technical recommendations for HVAC/LEV services across the wider business.
- Conducting visual assessments of on-site equipment and offering technical guidance.
- Coordinating with stakeholders, including Engineering Authorities, Occupational Hygienists, and DSEAR engineers, to ensure LEV systems are safe, legal, and compliant.
- Preparing technical reports and documentation to support new HVAC and LEV installations.
- Developing and maintaining site engineering standards for HVAC and LEV systems.
- Supporting and leading junior engineers.
We are seeking individuals with a proven background in the design, installation, commissioning, or maintenance of HVAC and/or LEV systems. A strong understanding of ventilation principles and cooling/heating design is essential, as is experience in developing or interpreting design proposals and technical documentation. Familiarity with relevant HVAC/LEV standards and legislation, along with a degree-level education (preferably in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline), is required.
The SSE team operates as part of the wider Barrow-in-Furness Site and Facilities team, setting site engineering standards and requirements. You will contribute Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in disciplines including HVAC & LEV within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
