Senior/Principal Systems Engineer - Countering UAS
Leonardo is seeking a highly experienced Senior or Principal Systems Engineer to join our growing team in Basildon, Essex. This is an exciting opportunity to work on critical engineering challenges, designing and developing advanced system-of-systems solutions for Countering Uncrewed Air Systems (CUAS).
In this role, you will take on leadership responsibilities, including planning and scheduling for Systems Engineering Work Packages across the entire project lifecycle. You will be instrumental in integrating various engineering and technology strands to create high-performance systems. Our work focuses on strategic integrated Radar, Electro-Optic, and CEMA Sensors, Command and Control software, and mobile CUAS, with major delivery programmes and active campaigns underway.
This position is both inward and outward facing, requiring close collaboration with customers and our engineering teams to deliver solutions that meet user needs, align with Leonardo's strategy, and provide high quality, effective outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with customers, suppliers, product teams, and stakeholders to define overall solutions and take ownership of detailed solution elements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to create and agree on top-level solution documentation, including system architecture and design.
- Work with teams, suppliers, and customers to reach mutually acceptable conclusions in line with Leonardo principles.
- Ensure technical requirements are accurately flowed down to subsystems and subcontractors.
- Define, manage, and lead Verification and Validation activities.
- Lead System/sub-system fault finding and integration troubleshooting under demanding timescales.
- Review technical documents and drawings from subcontractors.
- Support the certification of overall solutions and sub-elements.
What you'll bring:
- Engineering Degree qualification or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience in systems engineering, including the integration of complex systems.
- Demonstrated verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to produce accurate and professional documentation.
- Domain knowledge in at least two of the following: Radar, Electro-optics, Command and Control Software, ICT, and Networked systems.
- Competence in developing and implementing complex technical solutions, managing technical risk, and promoting best practices.
- Understanding of product safety, including experience with safety reviews and hazard management.
- Ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders on complex technical issues.
- Experience supporting and/or managing equipment installations and in-field/remote support for troubleshooting and repair.
- Willingness to undertake short periods of overseas work (less than 1 month).
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, leading or supporting as required, and adapt to operational requirements.
- Capability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise workload professionally.
