Role Description
As a Senior Process Engineer, you will be instrumental in leading an engineering team to develop and implement manufacturing processes that are both robust and cost-effective, directly aligning with business plans and customer expectations. Your responsibilities will include ensuring strict adherence to industry standards by applying methodologies such as Lean Principles, Process Control Plans, and PFMEA. You will also actively support automation initiatives.
This role involves the critical task of approving technical specifications and qualifying complex equipment. Collaboration with suppliers will be essential to ensure that deadlines and regulatory requirements are consistently met. You will champion process optimisation through data-driven decision-making, meticulously oversee safety-critical documentation, and provide support for various project activities, including capability studies.
Furthermore, you will be responsible for communicating performance insights to stakeholders and will lead process safety and new process introduction throughout the entire lifecycle of the process.
Core Duties
- Directing an engineering team to develop new manufacturing processes, in line with engineering plans and budgets, ensuring technical solutions are robust, timely, cost-effective, and meet customer expectations.
- Ensuring manufacturing processes comply with industry standard controls that guarantee long-term process stability, including Lean Principles, Process Control Plans, PFMEAs, with awareness of Programmable Logic Controls and Visual Management Systems on automated process lines.
- Approving technical specifications and leading the qualification of complex equipment, working with suppliers to meet tight deadlines, and ensuring all process equipment meets regulatory and safety standards.
- Coordinating development activities to establish supporting data that ensures manufacturing processes are based on a sound understanding of the materials being processed and the technology adopted for plant and equipment.
- Reviewing and approving critical-to-safety manufacturing documentation sets, such as Process Control Plans and Product and Process Risk Assessments.
- Supporting project activities, including process reviews, capability studies, and Safe System of Work.
- Presenting to line management and other stakeholders on topics relating to process status and capability, including KPIs.
- Being responsible for, and leading process safety within the process engineering team.
- Leading new process introduction, including capital acquisition, throughout its lifecycle.
Essential Skills
- Minimum Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
- Possess a strong technical and manufacturing foundation, demonstrating initiative and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Skilled in prioritising a constantly varying workload while maintaining high quality standards and meeting deadlines.
- IOSH Managing Safety / NEBOSH Certificate.
- Understanding of equipment-related safety.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in materials processing, coupled with CompEx/ATEX certification.
- Exposure to COMAH sites.

Location and Working Environment
This position is based at the BAE Systems Land UK site in Glascoed, Monmouthshire. The role operates on a four-day working pattern within a hybrid working environment, with occasional travel to other customer, manufacturing, and test and evaluation sites.
