About the Role

As a Senior Product Safety Engineer at Babcock, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our mission-critical systems. This position supports both UK defence and export customers, working across a variety of complex engineering projects.

Your responsibilities will include contributing to the development, assessment, and assurance of safety throughout the system lifecycle. Projects span strategic communications, tactical communications, weapon handling & launching systems, and many other complex systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety assessments and risk analyses for systems and subsystems.
  • Provide expert advice on safety engineering processes and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the integration of safety into system design and development activities.
  • Participate in design reviews, audits, and safety working groups.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including MOD clients, to ensure safety requirements are met.
  • Develop and maintain Safety Case Reports, including supporting analyses such as Hazard Analysis and Functional Failure Analysis, ensuring compliance with relevant standards (e.g., DEF STAN 00-56).
  • Apply a detailed understanding of hazard analysis and safety evaluation processes.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  • Familiarity with safety standards and legislation.
  • Good verbal and written communication, analytical, problem-solving skills, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in safety engineering within a high-integrity or regulated environment (e.g., defence, automotive, aerospace, rail or nuclear).
  • Degree in Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Working Arrangements

This is a full-time, permanent role working 37 hours per week. It involves flexible travel across a range of internal and customer sites on a weekly/monthly basis, alongside home working arrangements.

Security Clearance Requirements

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national and able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
