Senior Software Engineer - Defence, Cyber & Intelligence

Lockheed Martin is expanding its team in Gloucester and seeking talented Senior Software Engineers to join multiple Defence, Cyber, and Intelligence programmes. This is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week.

About the Role

In this essential and rewarding role, you will play a pivotal part in developing cutting-edge DevSecOps software systems and applications. You will be at the forefront of driving innovation and safeguarding digital infrastructures in the UK. A range of specialisms exist, allowing you to focus on one area or operate across multiple Software Development disciplines, with a potential focus on the Cyber domain.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, conducting, and coordinating software development activities.
  • Designing and developing tests to debug software.
  • Working with customer requirements to be programmed into business/mission applications, utilising appropriate standards, processes, and tools throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Correcting program errors.
  • Preparing operating instructions.
  • Documenting program development.
  • Analysing system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.
  • Championing automation in the form of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), and test automation.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in current Java; knowledge of other languages such as Python, C++, JavaScript, TypeScript, React is a bonus.
  • Experience developing on Linux.
  • Thorough understanding of mocking and unit testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit 5.x Jupiter).
  • Experience with Git version control.
  • Proficiency in Agile Development using SCRUM.
  • Experience with Oracle/Relational Databases and/or MongoDB.
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD Pipelines.
  • Experience with Apache NiFi.
  • Experience in the use of Atlassian Suite (Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence).
  • Experience with Elasticsearch and Kibana.
  • Experience with Hibernate.
  • Experience with AWS Services (e.g., EC2, EKS, Fargate, IAM, S3, Lambda).
  • Experience with CI/CD software pipelines for Cloud deployments.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience developing software for cloud deployment, specifically AWS.
  • Developing software for microservice and/or serverless architectures.
  • Understanding the development challenges of moving on-premise workloads to the cloud.
  • Experience with JSF (Primefaces).

Qualifications or Certifications (Desired):

  • Oracle Java Certification.
  • AWS Certification.
  • ISTQB Certification.
  • OSCP Certification.
  • CCNA Certification.

Security Clearance:

A key requirement of this role is the ability to obtain and maintain a high-level security clearance (DV). If you do not currently hold the required clearance, Lockheed Martin can support you through the application process.
