Service Desk Engineer

At Babcock, we're dedicated to creating a safe and secure world. As a Service Desk Engineer at our Babcock Technology Centre in Stoke Gifford, Bristol, you'll play a vital role in supporting business-critical software applications across defence, aerospace, and engineering sectors.

Working within a structured service management team, you will be responsible for providing second-line application support. Your primary goal will be to resolve incidents efficiently, ensuring the reliability, security, and availability of our systems. This role offers significant opportunities for career growth within IT service management and application support, with clear development pathways and access to training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve application support incidents using ITIL-aligned service management processes.
  • Investigate and respond to support requests via phone and email within agreed service levels.
  • Prioritise and manage workloads to ensure positive customer outcomes.
  • Record, update, and communicate progress using service management tools.
  • Collaborate with wider IT teams and escalate issues as appropriate.

This is a full-time, permanent position working 35 hours per week, based on-site at the Babcock Technology Centre. Working hours are set between 7 am and 7 pm, Monday to Friday, to cover operational needs.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience supporting software applications in a service or operational environment.
  • Working knowledge of IT service management tools for incident handling.
  • A strong analytical and methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users.

Desirable Experience/Qualifications:

  • Technical understanding of databases, including Oracle or SQL.
  • Certifications or training in ITIL, Oracle, or SQL.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National and able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
