Role Overview
As a Simulator Technician, you will be an integral part of a small, on-base team at RAF Leeming. Your primary responsibility will be to perform setup activities and essential maintenance on Hawk training devices, ensuring maximum availability to support Joint Squadron aircrew training.
Core Activities
- Liaise with Qualified Flying Instructors (QFIs) regarding device availability, scheduled maintenance, and unscheduled fault resolution.
- Prepare Pilot training devices for customer use daily and assist with mission-specific preparations.
- Undertake scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to maximize device availability, meticulously recording all activities performed.
- Perform maintenance in a safe manner, strictly adhering to documented maintenance and risk procedures.
- Diagnose faults and perform remedial maintenance (e.g., remove and replace unserviceable parts) efficiently to maximize device availability.
- Raise Fault Reports and queries, identifying components requiring repair or replacement.
- Record spares consumption for each training device and follow procurement processes.
- Adhere to the tool control process as described within the relevant Part 145 Acceptable Means of Compliance documentation.
- Leverage the experience of the L3 Field Service Representative (FSR) and apply learned knowledge to ongoing device support.
Key Accountabilities
- Follow safe working procedures, understanding hazards and mitigation strategies.
- Understand and comply with risk assessments.
- Be responsible for personal safety and maintain safety training currency.
- Adhere to the contents of the relevant CONOPS documentation and Maintenance Safety Management Plan.
- Ensure devices are certified as ‘safe to use’ before customer handover.
- Report all accidents, incidents, and near-miss events in accordance with safety management processes.
- Assist in the control of visiting contractors.
Requirements
- Ideally, possess a background in Avionic simulation systems or have extensive Information Technology experience. (Device-specific training will be provided).
- Alternatively, a background in military aviation as an Engineering Technician (preferably Avionics, Electrical, or IT) is suitable, especially with an Engineering Apprenticeship qualification (NVQ level 3) or equivalent (City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance).
- Ensure personal compliance with risk assessments, SHE policies, and procedures.
- Completed Human Factors, E&PW Awareness, and ITAR Awareness standard courses.
- Be IT Literate.
