The Role: Software Engineering Lead

As a Software Engineering Lead, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Project Engineering Manager. Your responsibilities will include the efficient employment and tasking of systems, hardware, and software engineers to deliver budgeted tasks, bids, installations, and support to first-line delivery teams.

This position offers comprehensive exposure to the full software development lifecycle. You will gain valuable experience through leading the development of software training systems, interacting with a range of internal stakeholders, and contributing to innovative solutions within the MEMISIS simulation and training environment.

Core Duties

  • Task and monitor the engineering team in accordance with BAE Systems’ processes to deliver contracted deliverables against agreed schedules.
  • Prepare and review engineering estimates and schedules for internal and external review.
  • Forecast required resources for each task and update the resource management toolset.
  • Support the Project Engineering Manager in the identification and analysis of engineering risks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across people, processes, tools, and technology within engineering capability.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Sound knowledge and experience of software and/or systems engineering principles is essential.
  • Proven knowledge of engineering governance and lifecycle management processes within a project or complex environment.
  • Ability to motivate engineering teams to deliver to budget, timescale, and required quality standards.
  • Some knowledge of hardware and electrical engineering principles/issues is beneficial.
  • Understanding of the Naval training domain would be advantageous.

Location and Working Arrangements

This role is based in Portsmouth Broad Oak and offers a hybrid working model. Specific arrangements can be discussed with your recruiter.

The MEMISIS product provides a sophisticated battlespace simulation of the maritime world, accurately modelling platform behaviour and capabilities. This product is vital for naval training, conceptual experimentation, and testing new platform systems, ultimately reducing operational risk.
