Technical Author at QinetiQ Target Systems

We are looking for a Technical Author to join our QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) site in Ashford, Kent. This is an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology alongside some of the most brilliant minds in the industry.

The Role

As a Technical Author at QinetiQ Target Systems, you will be responsible for preparing a variety of technical documentation to support our product range. QTS specialises in the design and manufacture of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems, including the world-leading Banshee target.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve documentation delivery, guided by the priorities set by the Technical Publications Manager. This includes the preparation of illustrated parts catalogues, maintenance manuals, operating manuals, and training materials that cover both electrical and mechanical systems.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Preparation of presentation material using provided software.
  • Generation of original graphics, including photographs and CAD images, for use in technical publications.
  • Providing general documentation support to departments and projects.
  • Maintaining a strong working knowledge of QTS products.
  • Adhering to the guidelines of the department's general procedures (GP).

Essential Experience for the Technical Author:

  • A Mechanical or Electronic Engineering background (Quality Assurance experience is also relevant).
  • Experience in technical publications, ideally gained within an engineering environment.
  • Understanding of CAD systems, specifically SolidWorks, and the ability to manipulate CAD models for documentation presentation.
  • Ideally, knowledge of CE marking regulations.
  • Familiarity with FrameMaker, Adobe PDF Pro, and the Microsoft Office suite.

Essential Qualifications for the Technical Author:

  • A Mechanical or Electronic Engineering qualification (NVQ minimum).

Working Arrangements and Benefits:

This role is based at our Ashford (Kent) site, working 37 hours per week, with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Flexible working options are available.

Security Clearance:

Many roles at QinetiQ require national security vetting. Applicants who already hold the appropriate level of vetting may be able to transfer it upon appointment.
