At QinetiQ, we are creating the future of defence technology and seeking a motivated UAS Senior Technician to join our team at the Boscombe Down site. You will play a crucial role in Test & Evaluation trials, working with advanced Uncrewed Systems.

The Role

Reporting to the Team Leader, the UAS Senior Technician is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and operation of a diverse range of Uncrewed Systems (UAS) assets for Test & Evaluation trials. This includes performing scheduled and routine maintenance, operating UAS that you are trained and competent on, and ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with approved data and manuals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building, functional testing, repairing, and disassembling Uncrewed Systems and associated payloads in accordance with approved data.
  • Operating and maintaining Uncrewed Systems during trials.
  • Problem-solving and fault diagnosis on Uncrewed Systems and associated equipment.
  • Ensuring customer target requirements are met.
  • Adhering to standards set by relevant Air Publications, OEM Manuals, QinetiQ Operating Framework, and CAA Regulatory Publications.

Essential Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience working with Uncrewed Systems in a regulated and safety-focused environment.
  • UAS flying experience.
  • Knowledge of a variety of Uncrewed Systems technologies and types.
  • High level of IT competence and ability to learn new systems.
  • Experience using Online Manuals and maintenance recording solutions.

Essential Qualifications:

  • CAA Remote Piloting qualifications (Highly Desirable).
  • Engineering qualification (Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical) or completion of a relevant engineering apprenticeship.
  • Professionally registered as an Eng Tech, or capable of progressing to Eng Tech.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Location and Working Hours:

This role is based at our Boscombe Down site, working 37 hours per week with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Flexible working patterns are available, and travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites may be expected.

MOD Boscombe Down is a significant operational site specializing in testing, evaluation, and support services for aviation and aerospace systems, playing a vital role in the UK's aviation defence.

Security Clearance:

All applicants must be eligible for SC clearance as a minimum.
